Since I was introduced to the Quik-Stitch Endoscopic Suturing System I have found it un-paralleled to traditional methods in its ease of knot tying security and its use in advanced laparoscopic gynecological applications. As with advanced endoscopic procedures, having the right instrumentation can make a case easier to perform and lessen the risk of post-operative complications, especially in a vessel rich environment. I have found the Quik-Stitch most beneficial in Classic Suprafascial Supracervical Hysterectomy (CISH) procedures, Advanced Laparoscopic Culpoplexies, Uteral Sacral and Sacral Spinus Ligament Suspensions and Paravaginal Repairs.

I. Closure of Pubocervical to Rectovaginal Fascia

When performing a CISH procedure or Total Laparoseopic Hysterectomy it is paramount to have intact fascial closure to prevent post-operative enteroceles. Prior to using the Quik-Stitch the time to perform and teach intracorporeal or extracorporeal knot tying was frustrating and burdensome; now it's quick and easy. Multiple sutures can be placed accurately using permanent or absorbable sutures in the time it previously took to place one suture.

II. Fixation of Apical Vaginal Vault Mesh

Using the Quik-Stitch in placement of Acellular Matrix material or Mesh makes suspension procedures time efficient. Whether performing High Uterosacral, Sacral Culopoplexy or Paravaginal Repairs, the placement of accurate knots and tension are essential. The Quik-Stitch can save 45-60 minutes of operating time compared to traditional methods. Single throw of figure eight suturing is easily accomplished.

We have found the ease of the Quik-Stitch allows the average Endoscopic surgeon to advance their skills to the next level of expertise. While Quik-Stitch is being used at our facility in general surgical applications, I have found its greatest benefit for advanced laparoscopic gynecologic surgeries and the CISH procedure.

I applaud the innovators at PARÉ and welcome all those wishing to advance their personal surgical abilities to the betterment of their patient's healthcare to give it a try.
